History of the Kamloops Skating Club

Originally called the Mt. Paul Figure Skating CLub, which rumour has, started some 75 years ago on an outdoor rink located near where the Pavilion Theater is now located.

The club moved to the Memorial Arean upon it's completion in 1947. The club then expanded in 1964 to include the McArthur Park Sports Centre. In 1973 upon the completion of the Brock Arena, the Brockdale Figure Skating Club was born. It was there in 1977 that our Administrative Coach Heather Ansley began her relationshop with the Kamloops Skating Club.

In 1979 she took a two year break from coaching to add to her family and in early 1980 just prior to her return, the Mt. Paul Figure Skating Club and the Brockdale Figure Skating Club joined forces to become The Kamloops Skating Club.

Heather has been with the club ever since. Her 20+ years of experience is an example of the loyalty and committment the club has to it's members.

The club's reputation for putting on organized, professionally run, high quality events, has resulted in the most recent success of Pacific Skate and the annual hosting of the "Autumn Leaves Competition" held in October.

Kamloops Skating Club is still going strong with learn to skate programs for all ages and special events such as a Christmas Family Skate, Skate-A-Thon, and Brag Night.

Our test and competitive skaters, known as "Star Skaters" benefit from both group and private lessons. Our Club along with our coaches led by Heather Ansley also support and assist our test and competitive skaters by providing numerous opportunities for Field Training Seminars. Off Ice training is also provided to improve fitness, form and reduce injuries.

It's about building confidence, work ethic and character which often reflects in their school work. Our goal is to make sure in the words of Donald Jackson, "Skating Remains Fun."
